TECH TRENDS: Speak Out: Police use voice recognition software to get feet back on the street faster
State Tech Magazine – August 5, 2011
“Dragon has worked so well for the Redlands police that Martinez purchased enough licenses for the department’s 76 officers and support staff. Martinez says that voice recognition software has been a godsend in terms of time and money. If an officer takes someone into custody, he has to turn around a report within 24 hours. Dictating is much more efficient and saves on the overtime that might have been incurred to finish such paperwork, he says. Dictation also leads to more detail-rich accounts because officers can verbally describe the scenes they encounter. ‘Not having to type results in officers being more thorough,’ he says.”

Nuance Dragon Dictate 2.5 for Mac review
Engadget - September 6, 2011
“Overall, we were supremely blown away by just how great Dragon Dictate operated…After years of typing for the majority of our waking hours, being able to cut that by a good 60 to 70 percent (in favor of using voice) was downright heavenly…For folks who spend more time each day typing than sleeping, we can't help but heartily recommend this. The dramatic decrease in wrist strain alone makes it a worthwhile purchase in our estimation, and the inevitable productivity increases are just icing on the cake."

Dragon Dictate for Mac breaks its "Golden Rule" - and users rejoice
ars Technica - July 25, 2011
“Dragon Dictate for Mac, the only viable option for Mac speech recognition, turns 2.5 today. […] The new version, a free upgrade for Dictate 2.0 users, addresses one of the most common complaints about the program: you can't use the mouse or keyboard while entering text with your voice. Or rather, you can, but your document will probably suffer. […]With version 2.5, Dictate finally ditches the Golden Rule, at least in compatible apps like Microsoft Word 2011. While the feature may sound trivial to non-users, Nuance notes that it ‘was the most requested product enhancement from Dragon Dictate customers.’ Mixing keyboard, mouse, and voice no longer disrupts the program's internal document map.”

That makes it easier than ever for me to write, return emails and do some serious work on the go. And having done just that for the past few days I can tell you- Dragon Dictation 2.5, an 11″ MBA and an iPhone make a powerful productivity combination.”
