BARCELONA, Mobile World Congress , February 11, 2008 – Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), a leading supplier of speech, smart keypad and imaging solutions, today at Mobile World Congress showcased its new suite of device interface technologies and hosted mobile services for mobile carriers, operators, and handset manufacturers, as well as automobile and portable navigation device vendors.
Nuance has emerged as a leading software supplier to the mobile device, operator and connected service industry, driven both through its own internal innovations and through the strategic acquisition of some of the world’s cutting-edge mobile interaction technologies. Nuance Mobile solutions are embedded within the leading handset products, including those from Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony-Ericsson, as well as the leaders in mobile connected services and automated directory assistance, including Vodafone, Orange, Sprint, and many others. “Our explosive growth shows that the convergence of natural device interfaces with hosted network applications is accelerating, creating huge opportunities for our OEM customers and carrier partners,” said Steve Chambers President, Mobile and Consumer Services Division for Nuance. “Users don’t distinguish the device from the application. Instead, they embrace applications that deliver.
Nuance Mobile is a combination of innovative products and services that use intelligent speech, text and search interfaces to simplify and enhance the way people use mobile devices, applications and services - regardless of technical know-how, location, environment or physical and literacy capabilities. With Nuance technology, users can speak natural queries to find ring-tones, locate the nearest DIY store, search the Web, or dictate a complete SMS or email. Users can also use smart text input and speech to access quickly key functions on the handset, command the MP3 player integrated in the phone or even have incoming content, such as SMS, mail and navigation directions, read aloud using Nuance’s human-sounding text-to-speech technology.

Most of the newest devices being showcased include rich voice capabilities from Nuance that let drivers keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road by simply speaking their destination and hearing turn-by-turn directions. In particular, Nuance has recently been profiled in the new, popular TomTom Go devices on display at MWC 2008.
- Automotive Safety and Convenience – Today, the world’s top ten car makers each are working with Nuance to change the way people use navigation systems, digital music players and mobile phones in their vehicles. With high-profile deployments in Mercedes-Benz vehicles and the new Ford SYNC system gaining wide appeal, Nuance is helping deliver safety and convenience for millions of drivers that want to use voice for controlling in-dash navigation, searching playlists on music players, dialing phones and accessing online services.
