Train misrecognized commands
If Dragon consistently misrecognizes a specific voice command (for example, it hears “Correct That” as “Correct dot”), you can train it to appropriately recognize your pronunciation of the command. -

You can enable and disable Natural Language Support both globally and within specific applications. -

Customization

Configure Dictation Box settings
The Dictation Box allows you dictate and edit text in any window of any application. You can define how the Dictation Box copies text from and pastes text into select applications. -
Change word properties
You can customize personal preferences to control the spacing, capitalization and other properties of dictated words. -
Adjust speed vs. accuracy
Use the Speed vs. Accuracy slider to increase product speed or increase recognition accuracy. -
Change data options
You can customize the options to have Dragon automatically back up your user profile. -
Change HotKeys options
HotKeys allow a user to activate and deactivate options by pressing a single key on the keyboard (e.g., the default HotKey to turn the microphone off an on is the plus key on the numeric keypad). -
Change view options
Selecting the Show Messages option enables you to see useful hints that periodically appear in the DragonBar. -
Change Text-to-Speech options
Adjust text-to-speech playback attributes including volume, pitch, speed and voice type. -
Change toolbar view for DragonBar
Adjust the view of the DragonBar to show more options. -
Reduce the amount of speech data saved
To maximize system resources, the Options dialog box enables you to control the disk space reserved for playback of your dictation or instruct Dragon to store corrections in an archive. -
Improve performance by decreasing the vocabulary size
You may choose to decrease your vocabulary size to improve overall Dragon speed. The smaller the vocabulary Dragon uses, faster and transcribe your dictation. -
Hide the results box
If you find that you are distracted by the yellow results box that collects your dictated text before dropping the words into your document, options are available to remove the results box from the screen while you dictate.

Resume dictation at another location in the text
The “Resume With” command allows you to back up if you misspeak or change your mind after dictating a phrase.
Formatting

Format dates, measurements, and abbreviations automatically
It is possible to format dates, measurements or acronyms automatically by setting options within the Formatting Options dialog box. -
Turn numbers mode on and off
When you need to dictate a string of numbers and you do not want Dragon to recognize them as words or commands, switch to Numbers Mode. -
Set formatting options
The Formatting dialog box can be used to set formatting preferences. -
Format street address
Use the Formatting window to have Dragon automatically format street addresses. -
Format to abbreviate titles
Use the Formatting window to have Dragon automatically abbreviate titles. -
Format contractions
The Expand Contractions option causes Dragon to recognize spoken contractions in a more formal way (e.g., “Don’t go near the water” is transcribed as “Do not go near the water”). -
Format numbers to be text or numbers
The Formatting dialog box allows you to specify whether or not Dragon should transcribe numbers as words or digits. -
Format ISO currency codes
Dragon can be set to automatically format currency based on the Windows Regional and Language Options. -
Format phone numbers
Use the Formatting window to have Dragon automatically format phone numbers rather than typing a string of non-formatted numbers. -
Format measurement units in DragonPad
Automatic formatting is available for standard units of measure, such as feet and inches (e.g., dictating “six feet three inches” yields “6’3”). -
Dictate individual capital letters
To dictate individual capital letters, say "caps on" before the letters to be capitalized and then "caps off" to no longer capitalize text. -
Dictate email and web addresses
Email and web addresses can be dictated just as you would normally speak them. -
Disable automatic formatting
Disabling automatic formatting can help to improve Dragon’s overall performance and speed since Dragon requires more time to automatically format special text such as dates, times and currencies.

Creating a user profile
Learn how to create a customized User Profile that best reflects your voice, the words you use, and your specific audio input device(s). -
Use Spell Mode
The Spell Mode is very useful for dictating character sequences that don't form pronounceable words, such as part numbers, license plate numbers and codes. -
Train Words from the Spell Dialog box
Normally you do not need to train words after spelling them, but if Dragon repeatedly misrecognizes a word, even after you have added it to the vocabulary, that word should be trained. -
Run the Acoustic and Language Model Optimizer
Increase your overall accuracy by updating your user profile with acoustic data from your corrections and additional training you have performed. -
Turn Command Mode on
In Command Mode, Dragon will interpret all dictation as commands instead of text. -
Train words and phrases
If Dragon is not recognizing certain words or phrases, and you have tried correcting the misrecognition at least twice, then it may be necessary to train that word or phrase to teach Dragon exactly how you pronounce it. -
Add individual words to vocabulary
If Dragon does not recognize a proper name, acronym or other word, that particular word may not be in Dragon’s vocabulary. If this happens, you can add the word so that it is recognized in the future. -
Add words from a list
You can create a list of words (such as a list of employee names, product code list, etc.) to add directly to your vocabulary. -
Add words with the Spell dialog box
The Spell dialog box can be used to add a word to your vocabulary by dictating the correct spelling of the word. -
Edit vocabulary
The Vocabulary Editor allows you to view or edit your vocabulary to address unique words or phrases. -
Create a spoken form of a word or phrase
Creating a spoken form allows you to specify how you choose to dictate the word or phrase that Dragon will transcribe (e.g., the spoken form “N double ACP” yields the written form NAACP). -
Change correction options
Dragon offers a variety of correction options, including the ability to have the Correction Menu appear every time you select a word or phrase by voice. -
Change the recognition mode
Changing recognition mode can make dictating certain types of text or numbers more efficient. You can choose whether or not Dragon should recognize voice commands. -
Turn dictation mode on
If you want Dragon to interpret on commands as dictation instead of text, you can use Dictation mode. In dictation mode, Dragon will convert on commands into written text.

Add contact names and e-mail addresses to vocabulary
The “Increase Accuracy from E-mail” option enables you to quickly add contacts from your sent e-mail to your vocabulary. -
Configure audio settings
Configuring audio settings, including a Volume Check and a Quality Check, can help to improve Dragon recognition. -
Add words from documents
The “Add Words from Documents” tool can be used to add unique words and terms from your existing documents to your Dragon vocabulary. -
View user properties
User Properties provides information about a user, including the language, dictation source, speech model, and what steps have been taken to set up the user. -
Set the Accuracy Tuning Tool
Users are given an option to schedule Accuracy Tuning when you create a user profile. -
Use the Vocabulary Optimizer
Run the Vocabulary Optimizer to improve recognition accuracy by adapting Dragon to your writing style. -
Improve speech files from email writing style
Improving your user profile will help to improve your overall accuracy. -
Save user files
Upon installation, the New User Wizard is used to create and customize a set of user files which contain information about your voice and vocabulary. -
Backup the user profile
Backing up your user profile is important in case your computer crashes and potentially corrupts your user profile -
Close a user profile when done with Dragon
You should always close your user profile when you are done using Dragon. Once the user files are saved, Dragon can be closed safely. -
Add a new dictation source
If you select a new microphone, headset, or digital voice recorder to use with Dragon, you can add a new dictation source to your existing user profile. -
Control the microphone
The microphone can be turned on and off with the mouse or keyboard as well as by voice. -
User profile creation
It's quick and easy to create a user profile within Dragon.
Making Corrections

Spell a word
To spell a word, simply say "Spell" or "Spell That" and the characters of the word or words you want to spell. -
Playing back your dictation
To make correcting mistakes easier, Dragon records your speech as you dictate. When you check your work, you can play back some or all of the text so that you can hear what you actually said. -
Correct text using voice
You can use your voce to correct a misrecognition. Correcting text is an important way to increase Dragon's recognition accuracy. -
Correct a misrecognized command
When valid commands appear in the Results Box, it will adopt a bold blue border. Say "scratch that" to delete an unwanted dictation and "undo that" to undo an unwanted action. -
Undo a command or dictation
To undo the last dictation, you can say "undo that."
Technical Support

Error message: NaturallySpeaking has reached the maximum amount of speech data that can be saved
By default Dragon stores speech date from approximately 30 minutes of dictation that can be played back or saved with your text. -
Error Message: Error 1330
During installation, this error message may appear, indicating the need for a flat-file Dragon installation. -
Error Message: 1722 – Dragon NaturallySpeaking Fails to Install
During installation, this error message may appear, indicating the need to disable Data Execution Prevention before installing Dragon. -
Error message: Dragon NaturallySpeaking should not be run in elevated mode
This problem may occur when a Dragon customer using a Windows Vista computer is logged into the computer as the local Administrator account on the system. -
Error installing Dragon NaturallySpeaking on systems with power saving CPUs in Windows Vista
CPU's used in laptops, tablets and other mobile systems may contain power saving technologies which reduce the processing speed of the CPU to conserve battery life. This means that even though the system's CPU may meet the minimum system requirements for installation it may actually be running at less than the requirement at the time of installation. -
Error Message: Pdm.dll
During installation, this error message may appear, indicating the need to adjust the Microsoft Windows Process Debug Manager file. -
Use the Dictation Box to dictate into an application not supported by Dragon
The Dictation Box is used for an application (or a specific window in an application) where you cannot dictate and/or where some voice commands won’t work or will not work consistently.
