ScanSoft Expects To Exceed Revenue Guidance In Second Quarter
Stronger Sales Include Enthusiastic Reception to OmniPage Pro 11
PEABODY, MA - July 10, 2001 /PRNewswire/ -- ScanSoft, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSFT), a
global
leader in paper-to-digital solutions, today announced that it expects revenue
for the three months ended June 30, 2001 to exceed $14.5 million, compared with
the previous guidance of $13 million to $14 million provided when ScanSoft
released first-quarter results on May 1.
“We are pleased that ScanSoft will once again deliver the
results we promised,” said Paul Ricci, chairman and CEO of ScanSoft.
“Our revenues for the second quarter reflect
an enthusiastic customer reception for our new OmniPage® Pro 11 optical
character recognition (OCR) product. OmniPage revenues exceeded our expectations primarily
because of higher
than expected orders resulting from the success of our direct marketing efforts. We also continue to see strong revenues from
our broad base of OEM partners. In
addition, and despite the sluggish external environment, our North American
retail revenues exceeded our expectations.”
OmniPage Pro 11 is the first OCR product developed from
the combined imaging technology and expertise of both ScanSoft and Caere,
enabled by ScanSoft’s acquisition of Caere in March 2000.
ScanSoft will report its second quarter 2001
financial results before the opening of the market on Tuesday, July 31,
2001. In conjunction with that
announcement, the company will conduct its quarterly conference call at 10:00
