ScanSoft Enters into an Electronic Software Distribution Arrangement with Los Alamos National Laboratory

PEABODY, Mass., March 11, 2002 - ScanSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: SSFT), a leading supplier of imaging, speech and language solutions, today announced that it has entered into an Electronic Software Distribution (ESD) licensing arrangement with Los Alamos National Laboratory. Los Alamos National Laboratory is operated by the University of California for the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.

Under the ESD Licensing Program, more than 10,000 employees and contract personnel of Los Alamos National Laboratory will have the opportunity to acquire ScanSoft's OmniPage Pro® 11 software for many purposes, including converting paper documents into efficient and re-usable electronic documents.
