Transform Magazine Selects ScanSoft OmniPage Pro 12 Office as Product of the Year Finalist

Leading Document and PDF Conversion Solution Chosen from Hundreds of Content and Collaboration Products Introduced This Year

PEABODY, Mass., November 14, 2002 - ScanSoft, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSFT), a leading supplier of imaging, speech and language solutions, announced today that Transform Magazine has selected ScanSoft® OmniPage® Pro 12 Office as a finalist for its "Product of the Year" award, adding to the growing list of industry accolades for ScanSoft's latest document and PDF conversion software. In selecting the finalists, the editors of Transform evaluated hundreds of content and collaboration products that have been introduced this year.

"This year, as always, we looked for new or significantly upgraded products released during the year that broke new ground or that consolidated formerly separate technologies," noted Doug Henschen, editor-in-chief of Transform Magazine. "The editors of Transform continually review new products, and many of this year's finalists were chosen on the basis of first-hand interaction with the technologies."

OmniPage Pro 12 Office is a powerful productivity application that delivers highly accurate document and PDF conversion, replacing the need to manually re-create paper and image-based documents with an automated, electronic process. The software helps businesses save time and money by instantly turning paper and PDF files - letters, contracts, spreadsheets, magazine articles, manuals and more - into editable word processing and spreadsheet documents.

With advanced features such as automatic document conversion to XML, scan-to-PDF and support for the Open eBook standard and batch processing, OmniPage Pro 12 Office offers a new level of functionality and ease of use for enterprise and workgroup environments. Other time-saving advances include precise document layout retention and unmatched document editing, making it easier than ever to re-create paper and image-based documents - even those with formatted text, columns, graphics, tables and spreadsheets.

"We are pleased that Transform has named ScanSoft's OmniPage Pro 12 Office as a finalist for this coveted prize, one that bestows prestige and attention to the products and services that are selected," said Robert Weideman, chief marketing officer at ScanSoft. "This recognition underscores the value ScanSoft brings to businesses that seek the industry's foremost content capture and collaboration solutions."
