Leicestershire Police Selects ScanSoft's OmniPage Pro 12 Office

ScanSoft's Award-Winning OCR Technology Increases Productivity and Enhances Information Utilization

PEABODY, Mass, and Reading, UK, July 15, 2003 - ScanSoft, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSFT), a leading supplier of imaging, speech and language solutions, today announced that Leicestershire Police's Force Intelligence Bureau in the United Kingdom has selected ScanSoft's OmniPage Pro® 12 Office to provide a searchable database of application forms and case information.

Available through a partnership with reseller Geoff Smith Associates Ltd. (GSA), ScanSoft's OmniPage Pro 12 Office is integrated into GSA's best-selling document management program, Cyclops, and enables all scanned forms and information to be converted into searchable PDF documents, which can then be archived, accessed and searched at any time.

The Leicestershire Police have been using GSA's Cyclops document management system since 1996, but until the integration of OmniPage Pro 12 Office, were unable to search critical case-related information. The addition of OmniPage Pro 12 Office has enabled more than 27,000 documents to be scanned into an easy to use, searchable database over the last six months. The database will continue to grow, with forty to fifty documents ranging in size from one to ten pages being scanned in every day. The system has been so successful that it has sparked interest by nearby police forces, such as the Derbyshire Police, who have expressed interest in adding the ScanSoft functionality to their Cyclops system.
