Nuance OmniPage and PaperPort Integrated with HP Smart Document Scan Software to Simplify Document Scanning

AIIMexpo 2006, PHILADELPHIA – May 17, 2006 – Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, today announced that ScanSoft® OmniPage® and ScanSoft® PaperPort® have been integrated with HP Smart Document Scan Software, a new document capture application, making it easier for business users to turn paper into documents that they can archive, edit and share. PaperPort has also been bundled as the document management standard within the HP Scanjet 7800, 8390, 8350, 8300 and 8270 models.

PaperPort, the world’s most popular document management application for Microsoft Windows, included in HP Scanjet scanners provides workgroups and departments with everything needed to implement affordable document capture and management. PaperPort simplifies the way users organize scanned documents as well as all of their existing Microsoft Windows folders and files. Key features include same-as-paper document stacking, robust support for scan-to-PDF features and workflow connectivity to Microsoft SharePoint and other enterprise content management systems.

Users of OmniPage, the world’s most accurate and best selling OCR application for Microsoft Windows, can leverage profiles within HP Smart Document Scan Software to automatically process scanned documents. Additionally, they can take advantage of the advanced document conversion and export features found in OmniPage. These include converting documents into searchable PDF, Open eBook, Microsoft Office, Corel WordPerfect and even audio book files that can be used on Apple iPod devices.

The new HP Smart Document Scan Software application provides organizations of all sizes with a powerful way to put professional yet easy-to-use document scanning and capture on the business desktop. The software delivers professional features within an intuitive interface that steps the user through the scanning process – from capture, image enhancement and optical character recognition (OCR) conversion to the export of documents to desktop applications and enterprise content management systems.

“We are pleased to collaborate with HP, industry leaders for innovative, high speed, and affordable scanning devices,” said Robert Weideman, senior vice president, Productivity Applications Division, Nuance. “Nuance’s market-leading document management and OCR technology combined with HP scanning solutions takes the complexity out of document capture, truly making it practical to put scanning on every business desktop.”
