Today, healthcare organizations are inundated with paper documents from a variety of disparate sources – emails, faxes, forms, handwritten notes, patient questionnaires, etc. – and the information within those documents is unstructured. This unstructured data presents a challenge to healthcare organizations that are working with electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as the GE Centricity EMR, in that the data must be manually indexed in order to be entered into the EMR. InDxLogic was developed for the GE Centricity EMR to manage document images using Nuance’s OCR technology combined with Indxit Systems’ search and string pattern matching techniques. With InDxLogic, the user simply scans a document, and that document is then submitted to a Remote Indexing Network (RIN) client application. The scanned document is processed leveraging the powerful OCR in the ScanSoft OmniPage Capture SDK, and the recognized content is matched against a reference database. A structured message of the document (HL7) is generated and returned to the EMR to be filed according to patient, document type and document content.
