Nuance Mobile Ships VSuite on Four New Motorola CDMA Handsets

Latest VSuite Framework Supports Connected Services and Advanced Developer Tools

SAN FRANCISCO, CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2008, September 10, 2008 – Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), a leading provider of speech solutions, today announced the commercial availability of Nuance’s VSuite® software on several new Motorola (NYSE: MOT) mobile handsets in the United States. Motorola expanded its offering to the latest commercial version of Nuance’s VSuite 3 to deliver hands-free voice control capabilities to several new CDMA handset models including the V755, V750, VE20 and V950.

“As demonstrated by the increased demand from carriers requesting speech capabilities in their device specifications, innovative speech solutions now play a significant role in the mobile phone user experience,” said Michael Thompson, vice president and general manager, Nuance Mobile Speech. “With our broad set of mobile speech solutions – from simple voice dialing to speech-based Web search – we’re helping Motorola and our joint carrier partners to deliver intelligent access to mobile services and applications, allowing mobile users to stay connected and productive.”

Nuance’s latest VSuite 3 framework showcases several capabilities to enhance its mobile and connected services offering, allowing for a more comprehensive user experience with speech. Some highlighted enhancements include:

  • Connected Services: VSuite can enable transparent connections to Nuance’s server-side infrastructure to support complex grammars and large vocabulary recognition, enabling services such as local business and Web search.
  • Support for Vocalizer for Mobile Text-to-Speech: OEMs can integrate Nuance’s Vocalizer for Mobile alongside Nuance’s VSuite, enabling OEMs to more easily build and deploy custom-built text-to-speech applications, such as text and email message readout.
  • Driving Mode Command: Users can enable or disable the handset for driving mode. When driving mode is enabled, services that are useful while driving can be enabled automatically, such as audio announcement caller ID and new message indication.
  • Bilingual Support: VSuite can understand mixed Chinese and English names.
  • Text and Photo Command: Users now have the ability to address new text and photo messages using hands-free voice control capabilities.

Nuance’s Mobile software is embedded in more than 3.5 billion shipped handsets. Nuance also has extensive relationships with carriers around the world and every major mobile OEM. For more information about Nuance’s Mobile products, including demos, please visit www.nuance.com/mobiledevices.
