Key commands

Key commands allow you to enter a keystroke with your voice, as if you had typed that key manually on your keyboard.

Key commands allow you to use keyboard shortcuts you already know to perform tasks, whether or not there a separate Dragon command for that task. For example, if you want to create a new document in any application, you can say New file or you can say Press the key combo Command N.

How to say a key command

To press a single key

  • Say Press the key <KEYNAME>.

Example: Press the key Escape.

To press a key combination

  • Say Press the key combo <MODIFIER-KEYNAME>.
  • Or

  • Say Press the keys <MODIFIER-KEYNAME>.

Example: Press the keys Command S.

Key names

You can press any of the following types of keys:

  • Text keys, such as:
    • Letter names (A, B, etc.)
    • Number names (one, two, etc.)
    • Space
    • Delete / Forward Delete
  • F-Keys (F one, F two, etc.)
  • Navigation keys:
    • Page Up / Down
    • Up / Down / Left / Right Arrow
    • Home / End
    • Escape
  • Multi-purpose keys:
    • Return / Enter
    • Tab

Modifier keys

These keys are used in many keyboard shortcuts:

  • Command
  • Shift
  • Option
  • Control
  • Caps Lock
