Correcting another user's dictation

You can correct another user's dictation while logged into that person’s user profile or while logged into your own. Each method has benefits, along with the potential for unintended effects on both user profiles.

Do you have the recorded dictation?

Users can save their recorded dictation with a document if they have set the “Save recorded dictation with document” option to “Always” or “Ask me”. This option is found on the Data tab of the Options dialog box and is set to "Always" by default.

Without the recorded dictation, there’s no benefit to working while logged into the speaker’s user profile. Further, doing so carries a risk of modifying the other user’s speech data with your own voice characteristic.

Working in your own user profile

There's a risk that you could modify your own speech data if you use the Playback feature to play someone else's dictation when working in your own profile. On the other hand, you don’t need to worry about using your own voice to make edits to the document when you’re working in your own profile.

Working in the speaker’s user profile

When you log into another person's user profile to make edits to their dictation, be careful not to use your own voice to dictate any text or commands. Because this can be difficult sometimes, you should consider using Correction Only Mode.

If the speaker saved the recorded dictation with the document, use the Playback feature when making corrections. Just be sure to use the mouse and keyboard to navigate the Correction menu.

To correct dictation using Playback, do the following:

  1. Open the document in the application used to create it.
  2. Switch to the Classic DragonBar. From the New DragonBar, select DragonBar>Classic DragonBar.
  3. Click correction button to open the Extras toolbar.
  4. Open the user's profile.

    • From the Classic DragonBar, select Profile>Open User Profile.
    • Select the user profile, and then click Open.
  5. Play back the dictation. Click Play (playback button).
  6. Stop playback where you need to make a correction. Click Stop (stop button).
  7. Select the text to correct using your mouse and keyboard.
  8. Do one of the following:

    • Click Correction button to open the Correction menu. Use your mouse and keyboard to make selections.
    • Correct the text using your mouse and keyboard.

  9. Save the document and the user's speech files when you're done.
