Using command line options

Command line options allow you to customize settings you want in place when Dragon starts up or behaviors you want Dragon to perform when you launch it. You enter them at a Windows command prompt, using precise syntax, as explained here.

To enter command line options:

  1. Launch your Windows Command Prompt utility. The location of this varies, depending on your version of Windows. If you’re unsure where to find it, use the Windows Search function.
  2. At the prompt, use the chdir DOS command, as shown in the example below, to navigate to the directory where Dragon is installed on your computer. By default, this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking14\Program.

Note: For help with DOS command syntax, type help in the Command Prompt window.

Example:
C:\Users\YourName> chdir ..\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking14\Program

  1. Type natspeak/switch, replacing “/switch” with a switch from the table below.

Switch Function
/diagnose Launches Dragon in diagnostic mode. Dragon will output diagnostic data into the dragon.log file and then exit.
/FindCustom Displays the custom directory.
/finddragonlog Displays a Windows Explorer window, with the dragon.log file selected.
/findsetuplog Displays a Windows Explorer window with the dgnsetup.log file selected
/findappdataallusers Displays a Windows Explorer window in our "all users" application data directory (nssystem.ini, nsapps.ini, models.ini, Users\ directory, etc.).
/findappdata Brings up a Windows Explorer window in our "this user" application data directory (dragon.log, upgrade.log, nsuser.ini, etc.)
/findupgradelog Displays a Windows Explorer window with the upgrade.log file selected
/user <User Profile> Replace <User Profile> with the name of a user profile that you want Dragon to automatically load after it launches.

/quick Runs Dragon in QuickStart Mode when you start your computer. QuickStart mode starts Dragon without loading a user profile or any speech models. Only the Dragon tray icon will be visible. When you click on the Dragon desktop icon, Dragon immediately displays the Open User Profile dialog. When you exit Dragon, the application resumes QuickStart Mode, remaining in your computer’s memory with a reduced footprint (approximately 10 MB).
/SetDefaultOptions

Displays the Options dialog box at the end of the installation, where you can change Dragon’s standard behavior, including:

  • assigning hot keys
  • customizing text formatting
  • configuring initial microphone settings
  • setting how frequently Dragon backs up user profiles
/SetDefaultAdministrativeOptions Displays the Administrative settings dialog box at the end of the installation, where you can set up the Roaming feature, choose the directory where you want to store your user profile backup, and establish restrictions that prevent users from modifying Dragon’s commands and vocabularies.
/SetDefaultFormattingOptions Displays the Default Formatting Options dialog.
