About your Active Vocabulary and the Backup Dictionary

About your Active Vocabulary

Your Active Vocabulary is a word repository that Dragon loads into your computer’s random access memory for immediate use. These are words that Dragon assumes you are more likely to use during dictation. When you add new words, Dragon moves the words that have not been used recently from your Active Vocabulary to your Backup Dictionary.

About the Backup Dictionary

The Backup Dictionary is an additional repository of words that you use less frequently. You move words from the Backup Dictionary to your Active Vocabulary when you do the following:

  • Use Learn from specific documents.
  • Use Learn from Sent emails.
  • Import lists of words or phrases.
  • Correct errors using the Correction Menu.
  • Correct errors using your mouse and keyboard.
  • Spell words using the Spelling Window.
