MyCommands Editor—Auto-Text

Set the Command Type to Auto-Text in the MyCommands Editor when you want to create or edit a custom command for inserting auto-text into your documents.

Auto-text is a block of content that you specify - including text, graphics, or both - for which you create a custom voice command. In your dictation, when you say the command, Dragon enters your content.

Tutorial: How do I insert my signature?

Enter the following criteria for your auto-text commands.

Option Description

MyCommand Name

What you'll say to run the command. For example, "Insert Company Logo".

Click Train to teach Dragon how you pronounce it.

Description

(Optional) A brief description of what the command does.

Group

Organize commands in groups to make them easy to find in the Command Browser.

Choose a group from the list or select User-defined to create a new group and type a name for it in the Group field.

Availability

Specifies which applications you can use the command with. Choose from:

  • Global—Available in all applications.
  • Application-specific—Available in a specific application. Select this to see a list of applications currently running on your computer and choose one, or click Browse to find one that's not in the list. You can also choose a state from the Recognizable in States list or type a new one into the field.
  • Window-specific—Available in one specific window of an application. Select this to view and choose a currently open application, a window, and a state. If the application you want isn't open, click Cancel, then launch that application and re-open the My Commands Editor dialog.

Command Type

This should already be set to Auto-text.

Name Editor

 

Click to open the MyCommands Name Editor.

Content

 

Enter exactly what you want Dragon to insert when you use this command. Use the formatting tools below the text box to style your content. To add a variable within the content, click Insert Variable.
Insert Variable Click to insert a variable in your auto-text content. Variables are placeholders for text that varies from one document to another. You can replace the "default value" text with an actual default value. For more information, see Using fields with Auto-Text commands.

Plain Text

 

Select if you want Dragon to format the auto-text content in the same manner as the text that precedes it in your document.

Unselect it if you want Dragon to preserve the formatting you specified in this dialog box. Note that this only works with applications that support Rich Text Formatting.

By default, this is unselected.
Save

Click to save your new command.

If you are editing a command, clicking Save overwrites the original command with your changed version. If you'd rather save your changes as a new command, click Create New.
Create New

This button is only enabled when you are editing an existing custom command in the MyCommands Editor.

Click Create New if you want to save your changes as a new command.

If you'd rather overwrite the original command with your changed version, click Save.
