BlackBerry Enterprise Server Setup for Nuance Voice Control™

Nuance Voice Control™ is designed to work with or without a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES). If you are going to work with a BES, you need to review the documentation listed below and download the application files for use with the document. While it is not required, it will make your Nuance Voice Control™ experience a better one.

How Does This Affect My BES Setup?

If you are using BES 4.0 or higher, you can turn off the API block function for the utlizing the phone from third party applications. This is signle best reason for implementing the process below. If you are a BES user and are making a phone call, you will always see a screen asking you if you want to allow the application access the phone yes/no. By following the instructions you can turn this off.

If you also would like all communications to go through your BES instead of through the Nextel Direct TCP layer, then you can also turn that on by following the instructions in the manual. Because BES 4.0 or higher allows your BES Administrator to set features by application, this does not jeopardize any of your existing configuration.

What If I'm Not Running BES 4.0 or Higher?

If you are not running BES 4.0 yet, then there is currently no way to configure your phone to allow for the Phone API to be accessed by third party applications. We suggest contacting your Rim sales representative or calling 877-BLK-BERRY for help in upgrading.
