Command Syntax
  1. Phone Calls - "Call" [Contact's name] + [phone type (optional)].

    Tips:
    1. Be sure to use the First and Last name when you speak the Contact name.
    2. Even if the First name is unique, (for example you have only one contact with the first name of Shane), you should still say the First and Last name.
  2. Phone Calls with a Number – "Dial" followed by the phone number digits.
  3. Call Voicemail – "Call Voicemail"
  4. Quick Emails: (Voice Email text is limited to 20 words)

Speed and Accuracy

Using the proper command syntax as defined above, will result in the fastest execution time (usually 3 seconds for phone calls and 10-15 seconds for most other commands) and highest accuracy. General Notes
  • Nuance Voice Control™ only works when your BlackBerry has data coverage (at least two bars on the signal strength indicator in the upper right hand corner of your BlackBerry screen).
  • Nuance Voice Control™ can not be used if your BlackBerry is already on a phone call.
  • If your BlackBerry Screen Saver is active, press the top button (or any other key) once quickly to remove the screensaver. Then push and hold the top button and speak your command as usual.
  • Currently, the service does not provide a visual or audio indication during the button press and hold that the system is active and recording your command. Future versions will have an indicator of activity.
  • When using the system to Call Contacts, the system may be slightly slower the first time a contact name is called. The second and all subsequent calls of a particular contact name are generally faster because the system has learned the name.
  • For customer support, please complete the form.
Notes for BES Users
  • The first time Nuance Voice Control™ is used, you may get a message on your BlackBerry that requests permission to open a socket connection. Use your spacebar to check both the 'Yes' checkbox and the 'Don't ask again' checkbox.
  • When using Nuance Voice Control™ to make a phone call on your BlackBerry, a screen may appear prior to the BlackBerry dialing your requested number that asks permission to dial. This is a BES setting that your BES/IT manager can change if desired. Once changed, the permission screen no longer pops up. For more information go to http://www.nvcnow.com/voicecontrolbesconfiguration.pdf.
Tips
  • If a contact has only a first name and Nuance Voice Control™ is having a hard time with the recognition of that contact, adding a last name to the contact will help Nuance Voice Control™ to better recognize your request for that Contact.
  • Website names are often difficult for the system to recognize. For unusual website names, please spell the site name the first time you use it. For example, say "Goto Website 'M' 'Y' 'S' 'I' 'T' 'E' .com. You should not have to spell the site name is subsequent requests.
  • Remember, to dial a number, use the "Dial" command followed by the number. Do not use the "Call" command for dialing numbers.
