The Business Challenge
Given the document-intensive nature of the legal industry, time spent printing and retrieving documents quickly adds up. In many practices, billable hours are often left on the table. As an existing Nuance customer, Colin Biggers & Paisley was ahead of the game in meeting the practice's printing and document management needs. Nuance eCopy was used to scan files to their document management system saving them time, archiving their document for future retrieval and improved the document security of those files. They were using Nuance Equitrac Professional to effectively organise, track and manage the large volume of documents produced for its clients. Designed specifically for professional legal services businesses like Colin Biggers & Paisley, Equitrac Professional let staff track and recover billable printing expenses and release their print jobs securely. The practice’s hardware, however, was beginning to show its age, requiring more and more attention from IT technicians. Paul Cowan, the practice's Office Services Manager knew it was time for a full refresh of its printing hardware and software, with upgrades needed in its Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane offices.
“With the number of calls increasing and more employees frustrated over lost time, updating our hardware and software made sense both economically and productivity-wise. Due to the size of the practice and the critical nature of the partners’ day-to-day work, however, it needed to be a flawless transition. That’s why we looked to Nuance for a new solution.”
In addition to assurance that the upgrade would have little to no impact on their day-to-day operations, Colin Biggers & Paisley also wanted to ensure the new software wouldn’t require additional training to operate. With various skill sets and needs across the business, the technology needed to be seamless and ensure compliance with corporate governance.
