Working with Roaming user profiles

This topic describes Roaming user profiles. For information on working with non-Roaming user profiles, see Working with user profiles.

To upgrade your Roaming user profiles:

Your Dragon Administrator upgrades Roaming user profiles.

  1. On the server where your Master Roaming user profiles are located, open Dragon and load Roaming user profiles with your current Dragon version.
  2. On the same server, disable the Roaming feature.

    You must be a Windows Administrator to disable the Roaming feature.

    1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Administrative Settings.

      The Close User Profile to Proceed dialog box appears.

    2. Click Proceed.

      A Windows User Account Control prompt appears.

    3. Click Yes.

      The Administrative Settings—Roaming tab appears.

    4. Deselect the Enable check box, and then click OK.
  3. Install the new Dragon version.
  4. Upgrade all Roaming user profiles on the server where Master Roaming user profiles are located.

    1. From the Windows Start menu, select the Upgrade User Profiles tool.

      • Dragon Medical Practice Edition>Dragon Medical Practice Edition Tools>Upgrade User Profiles (Windows 7)
      • Dragon Medical Practice Edition>Upgrade User Profiles (Windows 8.1 and 10)

      The User Profile Upgrade Wizard opens.

    2. On the Select the profile(s) to upgrade page, click Browse to add a profile....

      The Browse for Folder dialog box opens.

    3. Navigate to the folder where your Master Roaming user profiles are located.
    4. Select the folder, and then click OK.
    5. Click Next.
    6. On the Choose where to store the upgraded profile(s) page, click Browse.
    7. Navigate to the folder where your upgraded Master Roaming user profiles should be located.

      Choose a different location for your upgraded user profiles. If you select the folder where your user profiles are currently located, Dragon stores both versions of the user profiles in that folder.

    8. Select the folder, and then click OK.

      The Begin profile upgrading page appears.

    9. Click Next.
    10. Click Begin upgrading.

      The upgrade process begins.

    11. When the upgrade process completes, click Finish.
  5. On the server where your Master Roaming user profiles are located, re-enable the Roaming feature.

    1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Administrative Settings.

      The Close User Profile to Proceed dialog box appears.

    2. Click Proceed.

      A Windows User Account Control prompt appears.

    3. Click Yes.

      The Administrative Settings—Roaming tab appears.

    4. Select the Enable check box, and then click OK.
  6. Upgrade client computers to the new Dragon version.

  7. Re-enable the Roaming feature on all client computers:

    1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Administrative Settings.

      The Close User Profile to Proceed dialog box appears.

    2. Click Proceed.

      A Windows User Account Control prompt appears.

    3. Click Yes.

      The Administrative Settings—Roaming tab appears.

    4. Select the Enable check box, and then click OK.
  8. Do one of the following:

    • If you are using the United Kingdom, German, or French edition of Dragon Medical Practice Edition, import Roaming user profiles on each client computer. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select the location of the upgraded Master Roaming user profiles.

      Administrators can do this, or Dragon users can import their own Roaming user profiles.

    • If you are using the United States edition of Dragon Medical Practice Edition, or if you are using Dragon Professional, open your user profile from the Master Roaming user profile location.

      In the Open User Profile dialog box, click Browse next to the Location of user profile option.

To create a new Roaming user profile:

To open a different Roaming user profile:

When the Roaming feature is enabled, you can only open Roaming user profiles. You cannot open non-Roaming user profiles, unless you selected the Allow non-Roaming user profiles to be opened option on the Administrative Settings dialog box—Roaming tab.

If you enabled this option, ensure you open the correct user profile type.

  1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Profile>Open User Profile.

    The Open User Profile dialog box opens.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Select a Roaming user profile from the list, or
    • Select the non-Roaming user location from the Location of user profile drop-down list, and then select a non-Roaming user profile.
  3. Click Open.

    Dragon closes your current user profile and opens the new one.

To close your Roaming user profile:

From the DragonBar, select Settings>Profile>Close User Profile.

To delete a Roaming user profile:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Profile>Manage User Profiles.

    The Manage User Profiles dialog box opens.

  2. Select a user profile.

  3. Click Delete.
  4. Click Yes.

To rename a Roaming user profile:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Profile>Manage User Profiles.

    The Manage User Profiles dialog box opens.

  2. Select a user profile.

  3. Click Rename.

    The Rename User Profile dialog box opens.

  4. Specify a new name, and then click OK.

To save your Roaming user profile:

Dragon saves your user profile automatically when you exit. You might save your user profile manually if, for example, you just added many new words to your vocabulary.

From the DragonBar, select Settings>Profile>Save.

To view Roaming user profile properties:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Profile>Manage User Profiles.

    The Manage User Profiles dialog box opens.

  2. Select a user profile.
  3. Click Properties.

    The User Profile Properties dialog box opens.

To add a vocabulary to your Roaming user profile:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Profile>Add vocabulary to the current User Profile.

    The New Vocabulary dialog box opens.

  2. Specify a vocabulary name, vocabulary on which it should be based, and a region.

    For more information, click Help.

  3. Click OK.

To export your Roaming user profile:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Profile>Manage User Profiles.

    The Manage User Profiles dialog box opens.

  2. Select a user profile.
  3. Select Advanced>Export.

    The Browse for Folder dialog box opens.

  4. Navigate to the folder to which you want to export your user profile.
  5. Click OK.

    The export begins.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Close.

To import your Roaming user profile:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Profile>Manage User Profiles.

    The Manage User Profiles dialog box opens.

  2. Select Advanced>Import.

    The Browse for Folder dialog box opens.

  3. Navigate to the folder to which you exported your user profile.
  4. Click OK.

    The import begins.

  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Close.
