Turning off voice-enabling for menus, buttons, and other controls

Dragon allows users to navigate menus, click buttons, or work with other screen elements by voice. If you don't use this feature, you can disable it to help improve Dragon's speed.

Procedures

To turn off voice access in all applications:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Options.
  2. The Options dialog box opens.

  3. In the left panel, click Miscellaneous.
  4. The Miscellaneous page opens.

  5. Deselect the Voice-enable menus, buttons, and other controls option.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Exit and re-start Dragon for this change to take effect.

To turn off voice access in selected applications:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Settings>Options.
  2. The Options dialog box opens.

  3. In the left panel, click Miscellaneous.
  4. The Miscellaneous pagel opens.

  5. Expand the drop-down menu under the Voice-enable menus, buttons, and other controls option.
  6. Select each program where you want to disable voice control of menus, buttons, or other controls.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Exit and re-start Dragon for this change to take effect.

To turn off the option for specific applications (command-line method):

  1. Exit Dragon.
  2. Open the nssystem.ini file in a text editor. By default, nssystem.ini is located in:
  3. C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15

  4. Under [MSAA Modules Disabled], add a line for each relevant application:
  5. <executable_name>=1

    For example, to disable the option for Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, add two lines:

    winword=1
    excel=1

  6. Save and close nssystem.ini.
  7. Re-start Dragon.

If you do not know the name of an application's executable file, do the following:

  1. Start the application from the Windows Start menu.
  2. Open the Windows Task Manager by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
  3. Click Start Task Manager.
  4. Click the Processes tab.
  5. Find the application's executable name in the Image Name column.
