Working with Windows controls

Use these commands to work with Windows controls, like buttons, in windows and dialog boxes, and to work with menus and lists.

Procedures

To navigate through fields in a dialog box:

Say "Press Tab".

To click buttons:

Say "Click <button name>".

To select check-boxes:

Say "Click <check-box>".

To click tabs:

Use these commands to click tabs in a dialog box.

Say one of the following:

  • "Click Next Tab"
  • "Click Previous Tab"
  • "Click <tab name>"

To open a list:

  1. Say the list name to place focus on the list.
  2. Say "Expand List".

To select a list option:

Say the option name, or say "Press Enter".

To scroll in a list:

Say one of the following:

  • "Page Up"
  • "Move Down <number of lines>"
  • "Page Down"
  • "Move Left <number of characters>"
  • "Move Up <number of lines>"
  • "Move Right <number of characters>"

To close a list:

Say "Cancel".

To open a menu:

Say "Click <menu name>".

To select a menu option:

Say the menu option.

To close a menu:

Say "Cancel".

To open the Windows Start menu:

  1. Say "Click Start Menu".
  2. Optionally select menu options by saying "Click <menu option>".
