Positioning your microphone properly

Proper microphone placement is important for optimal speech recognition. Positioning your microphone properly is one of the most important things you can do to improve Dragon's accuracy. If your microphone moves from its original position, your accuracy may deteriorate.

Headset placement

  • Adjust the headset to ensure it fits comfortably.
  • Move the microphone to the side of your mouth.
  • Position the microphone about an inch from your mouth.
  • Confirm that the front of the microphone points toward your mouth.

The front might be indicated by the word "Talk" or a colored dot.

  • Position the headset consistently each time you use it.

Hand-held microphone placement

  • Point the microphone below or to the side of your mouth.

Do not hold it directly in front of your mouth.

  • Hold the microphone in a comfortable position.
  • Position the microphone 1-3 inches from your mouth.
  • Do not use a microphone stand or holder.

    The stand may conduct noise.

  • Hold the microphone consistently each time you use it.
