Working with custom commands

A custom command is a voice command that you create yourself to allow Dragon to perform an action.

Do not include secure information, such as credit card numbers or passwords, in your custom commands.

To create a new macro recorder command:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Tools>Command Center>Add New Command.

    The New Text and Graphics Command dialog box or the MyCommands Editor dialog box appears.

  2. If the New Text and Graphics Command Dialog box appears, click the Advanced button.

    The MyCommands Editor dialog box appears.

  3. From the Command Type drop-down list, select Macro Recorder.
  4. Specify the following:

    • Command name
    • Optional description
    • Group
    • Availability

    Fort field descriptions, click Help.

  5. Click Record.

    The MyCommands Editor minimizes, and the Recorder window appears.

  6. Perform the actions you want to include in the macro.
  7. Click the Stop button () when you're finished recording the macro.

  8. If you made a mistake while recording, click the Record button () to re-record the macro.

    Dragon deletes all previously recorded actions.

  9. Click the X to close the Recorder window.

    The MyCommands Editor maximizes.

  10. Optionally test your command by clicking Play.

    The MyCommands Editor minimizes, and the Recorder window appears while your macro plays.

  11. If you tested your command, click the X to close the Recorder window.

    The MyCommands Editor maximizes.

  12. Optionally edit any incorrect mouse locations by selecting an action in the Actions field and clicking Edit or Delete.
  13. Click Save.

To create a new step-by-step command:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Tools>Command Center>Add New Command.

    The New Text and Graphics Command dialog box or the MyCommands Editor dialog box appears.

  2. If the New Text and Graphics Command Dialog box appears, click the Advanced button.

    The MyCommands Editor dialog box appears.

  3. From the Command Type drop-down list, select Step-by-Step.
  4. Specify the following:

    • Command name
    • Optional description
    • Group
    • Availability

    Fort field descriptions, click Help.

  5. Select a step to perform from the New Step drop-down list.

    Other dialog boxes open to allow you to specify more information. For field descriptions, click Help.

    For descriptions of the actions in the New Step drop-down list, click the Help button in the MyCommands Editor.

  6. Click Insert.
  7. Repeat as necessary until all required steps are added.
  8. Click Save.

To create a new advanced scripting command:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Tools>Command Center>Add New Command.

    The New Text and Graphics Command dialog box or the MyCommands Editor dialog box appears.

  2. If the New Text and Graphics Command Dialog box appears, click the Advanced button.

    The MyCommands Editor dialog box appears.

  3. From the Command Type drop-down list, select Advanced Scripting.
  4. Specify the following:

    • Command name
    • Optional description
    • Group
    • Availability

    Fort field descriptions, click Help.

  5. Add code in the Script field.

  6. Click Save.

To edit a custom command:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Tools>Command Center>Manage Custom Commands.

    The Manage Custom Commands dialog box appears.

  2. Select a command in the list.
  3. Click Edit.

    The MyCommands Editor dialog box or the Edit Text and Graphics Command dialog box appears, depending on the command type.

  4. Edit the command as necessary.
  5. Click Save.

To delete a custom command:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Tools>Command Center>Manage Custom Commands.

    The Manage Custom Commands dialog box appears.

  2. Select a command in the list.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. Click Yes.

To export a custom command:

Use this procedure to share custom commands with other users.

  1. From the DragonBar, select Tools>Command Center>Command Browser.

    The Command Browser appears. By default, your custom commands appear, sorted by group.

  2. Select one or more commands in the list, holding down the Shift or Ctrl key to select multiple.
  3. Right-click the command, and then select Export.

    The Export Commands dialog box appears.

  4. Navigate to the folder where you want to export your commands.
  5. Type a file name for your exported .DAT file.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Copy the .DAT file to another computer to allow the user to import the commands.

To import a custom command:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Tools>Command Center>Command Browser.

    The Command Browser appears. By default, your custom commands appear, sorted by group.

  2. Select MyCommands>Import.

    The Import Commands dialog box appears.

  3. Navigate to the folder where the .DAT export file is located.
  4. Select the .DAT file, and then click Open.

    The Import Commands dialog box appears with all commands in the file selected by default.

  5. Deselect the commands that you do not want to import.
  6. Click Import.

    The import process begins.

  7. Click OK.
