If nothing happens when you speak

If Dragon's microphone is asleep, you can say "Wake Up" to turn it on.

Try the following if you get no response when you speak into your microphone. For more information on troubleshooting microphone issues, see Troubleshooting your microphone.

Check that Dragon's microphone is on.

The microphone may be off or asleep.

Check your microphone connection.

Check that your microphone is properly connected to the computer and is plugged into the correct port, usually the microphone jack. Microphones typically produce low audio levels that get boosted when connected to the microphone jack. The Line-in jack doesn't boost audio levels.

Connect your microphone directly to your laptop.

If you are using a laptop with a docking station, try connecting your microphone to the laptop instead of the docking station.

Connect USB microphones directly to the USB port.

If you are using a USB microphone, connect it directly to the computer's USB port rather than a USB extension or hub.

Run Dragon's sound system check.

If your audio signal level is low, more memory is used to recognize your speech and Dragon's performance is slower.

Make sure the window in which you want to dictate is active.

The active window can change when you use another application or save your user profile. A window or dialog box must be active for you to dictate into it.
