Dictation Box settings

Use this dialog box to configure the Dictation Box.

Option Description

Font

Changes the style, color, size, and other aspects of the font used in the Dictation Box.

To change the font:

  1. Click Change Font.
  2. Change font settings as necessary.
  3. Click OK.

To restore the default font:

Click Default Font.

Window position

Determines where the Dictation Box appears. The options are:

  • Anchor—Opens the Dictation Box where it was when you last closed it.
  • Automatically position the Dictation Box near the cursor—Opens the Dictation Box close to the cursor.

Settings for application <application name>

Determines how the Dictation Box copies and pastes text in each application. For example, you can have different copy and paste settings for Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Chrome. The options are:

Copy

  • Do not copy—Does not copy any text from the application when the Dictation Box opens.
  • Type keys <Ctrl+C>—Uses Ctrl+C to copy text from the application.
  • Use Windows Copy Command—Uses the Windows copy command to copy text from the application.

Default value: Type keys <Ctrl+C>

Paste

  • Type keys <Ctrl+V>—Uses Ctrl+V to copy text from the Dictation Box to the application.
  • Use Windows Paste Command—Uses the Windows Paste Command to copy text from the Dictation Box to the application.
  • Simulate keystrokes—Sends keystrokes from the Dictation Box to the application. Use "Simulate keystrokes" if the other methods of pasting text do not work.

Default value: Type keys <Ctrl+V>

Show character count

If selected, displays the character count in the Dictation Box.

If deselected, does not display the character count.

Default value: Deselected

Keep transferred text in clipboard when the Dictation Box is closed

If selected, retains your dictated text in the Windows clipboard. In the event that transferring your text does not complete successfully, this allows you to paste your text into a text field or application from the clipboard. You must have Type keys <Ctrl+V> or Use Windows Paste Command as the Paste option for your application.

If deselected, does not retain the contents of the Dictation Box after it closes. If transferring your text does not complete successfully, you must create it again.

Default value: Selected

Enable limit of text in 32767 symbols Check this option to limit the “x” number of characters you can dictate or copy into the Dictation box.

Restore Defaults

Click to restore all Dictation Box settings to their defaults.
