Working with Microsoft PowerPoint

Use these commands for basic document operations using Microsoft PowerPoint.

These procedures use Natural Language Commands. To use them, you must have enabled the Enable Natural Language Commands option and the Enable Microsoft PowerPoint commands option in the More commands dialog box. For more information, see About Natural Language Commands.

Full Text Control is not available in PowerPoint. For more information, see About Full Text Control and About the Dictation Box.

For a list of commands you can use in PowerPoint, say "What Can I Say?" at any time.

Tutorial: What can I say

To open PowerPoint:

Say "Open Microsoft PowerPoint".

To create a new presentation:

Say "Open a New Presentation".

To open an existing presentation (Office 2016 only):

  1. Say "Open File".

    The Open screen appears.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Say "Click <file name> dot <file extension>" to open a recent document listed, or
    • Say "Click This PC" and then say "Click <file name> dot <file extension>" to open a document on your local drive.

To open an existing presentation:

  1. Say "Open a Presentation".

    The Open dialog box appears.

  2. Dictate the file name. Say "<filename> dot <file extension>"
  3. Say "Click Open".

To open the File menu:

Say "Click File Tab".

To open all other menus:

Say "Click <menu name>".

To select a menu item:

Say "Click <menu option>".

To expand or collapse the ribbon:

Say one of the following:

  • "Expand Ribbon"
  • "Collapse Ribbon"

To set focus to the Tell me what you want to do field (Office 2016 only):

Say one of the following:

  • "Move to the Tell me field"
  • "Press Alt q"

To scroll in your presentation:

Say one of the following:

  • "Start Scrolling Up"
  • "Scroll Down"
  • "Start Scrolling Down"
  • "Scroll Faster"
  • "Scroll Up"
  • "Scroll Slower"

To stop scrolling:

Say "Stop Scrolling".

To scroll in windows and dialog boxes:

To move around a presentation:

Say one of the following:

  • "Go to the Beginning"
  • "Go Forward One Object"
  • "Go to the End"
  • "Go Backward One Object"
  • "Go Forward One Slide"
  • "Go Forward <number> Objects"
  • "Go Backward One Slide"
  • "Go Backward <number> Objects"
  • "Go Forward <number> Slides"
 
  • "Go Backward <number> Slides"

To close a presentation:

Say "Close Presentation".

To save an existing presentation:

Say "Save Presentation".

To save a new presentation (Office 2016 only):

  1. Say "Save File".

    The Save As screen appears.

  2. Say "Click This PC".
  3. Say "Click Documents".
  4. Dictate the file name. Say "<file name>".
  5. Say "Click Save".

To save a new presentation:

  1. Say "Save Presentation".

    The Save As dialog box appears.

  2. Dictate the file name. Say "<filename> dot <file extension>"
  3. Say "Click Save".

To Save As:

  1. Say "Save Presentation As".

    The Save As dialog box appears.

  2. Dictate the file name. Say "<filename> dot <file extension>"
  3. Say "Click Save".

To print a presentation:

  1. Say "Print Presentation".

    A print preview appears.

  2. Say "Click Print".

To switch between open presentations:
