Transcribe a spoken recording

Tools>Transcribe Recording

Use the Transcribe dialog box to transcribe a pre-recorded audio file.

When the recorded voice is not yours

  • You can transcribe another person's recorded speech using your own user profile.
  • If you will have several recordings of another person to transcribe, you will get the most accurate results using a transcription user profile for that person. To create this profile, select Profile>New User Profile and select the appropriate check box when prompted.
  • When you transcribe a recording of someone else's voice, you will only be able to correct the output manually, using mouse and keyboard.
Item Description

Select the speaker

If you are working in a transcription user profile, Dragon does not display this field.

Select Me or Someone else as the person speaking in the recording.

Choose Someone else to transcribe a recording of someone else's voice when you are working in your own user profile. This ensures speech data from the recording won't affect the speech data in your profile.

Input audio file

Enter the location and name of the audio file you want to transcribe, or click Browse to navigate to the file and select it.

Supported audio file formats are .wav, .mp3, .wma, .dss, .ds2, and .m4a.

Your audio files must have sampling rate of at least 16.000 kHz.

Automatically add commas and periods

(Optional) When selected, Dragon adds commas and periods to the transcription. This option is selected by default.

Audio quality and dictation manner affect the punctuation results. Also, when transcribing multiple audio files in one session, accuracy may degrade when this option is selected, so you should deselect it.

Output text file

Enter the location and name of the file where you want Dragon to save the transcribed text, or click Browse to navigate to the directory and create the file.

This file must be in Rich Text Format (.rtf).

Options

Click to change how you want Dragon to interpret commands it finds in the recorded audio. Otherwise, Dragon ignores all commands except the Dictation Commands, and the "Scratch That" and "Resume With" commands.

Transcribe

Click to begin transcribing the audio file.

If the file is encrypted (a .DSS or .DS2 file), specify the password.

Using your mouse or keyboard while Dragon is transcribing the file will slow or interrupt the process.
