Creating Auto-Text commands

Use Auto-Text commands for content you re-use frequently in your documents. They save time and effort, and reduce errors.

How do I insert my signature?

 

Procedures

To create a simple Auto-Text command:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Tools>Command Center>Add New Auto-Text.

    The New Auto-Text Command dialog box appears.

  2. Specify a command name, optional description, and the command text.

    For field descriptions, click Help.

  3. Click Save.

Example 1—Create an Auto-Text command to insert your address and company logo in a business letter

  1. Create a command called "Add location".
  2. Define its content to include your address and logo, such as the following:

    Image of Sherlock Holmes

  3. Open a Word document.
  4. Say "Add location".

    Dragon inserts your address and logo.

Example 2—Create an Auto-Text command to insert a formatted list of details about a property you assessed

  1. Create a command called "Describe property".
  2. Define its content as a formatted list, such as the following:

    Property Assessment

    Assessment date:

    Location:

    Name on deed:

    Year built:

    Square footage:

    Structure value:

    Observations:

     

     

     

    Follow-up:

     

     

     

  3. Open a Word document.
  4. Say "Describe property".

    Dragon inserts the details.

Example 3—Create an Auto-Text command to generate appointment notices

  1. Create a command called "Generate appointment".
  2. Enter the text along with variable fields for the date, time, and location, such as the following:

    We look forward to seeing you at your appointment on [date], at [enter a time between 1:00 and 4:00] pm.

    Our office is located at [1101 Hansen Blvd, Suite 3, Burlington, MA].

    Thank you for choosing Wayside Associates.

  3. Open a Word document.
  4. Say "Generate appointment".

    Dragon inserts the appointment details.

To create a more complex Auto-Text command:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Tools>Command Center>Add New Command.

    The Auto-Text Editor dialog appears.

  2. Specify field information.
