Working with Microsoft WordPad

Use these commands for basic document operations using Microsoft WordPad. You can also use Dictation commands. For more information, see Dictation commands.

For a list of commands you can use in WordPad, say "What Can I Say?" at any time.

Procedures

To open WordPad:

Say "Open WordPad".

To open the File menu:

Say one of the following:

  • "Click Application Menu" (Windows 7 and 8.1)
  • "Click File Tab" (Windows 10)

To open all other menus:

Say "Click <menu name>".

To select a menu option:

Say "Click <menu option>".

To create a new file:

  1. Say "Click Application Menu" (Windows 8.1) or "Click File Tab" (Windows 10).

    The File tab opens.

  2. Say "Click New".

    A new document opens.

To open an existing file:

  1. Say "Click File Tab".

    The File tab opens.

  2. Say "Click Open".

    The Open dialog box appears.

  3. Dictate the file name. Say "<file name>".
  4. Say "Click Open".

To expand or collapse the ribbon:

Say one of the following:

  • "Expand Ribbon"
  • "Collapse Ribbon"

To scroll in your document:

Say one of the following:

  • "Start Scrolling Up"
  • "Scroll Down"
  • "Start Scrolling Down"
  • "Scroll Faster"
  • "Scroll Up"
  • "Scroll Slower"

To stop scrolling:

Say "Stop Scrolling".

To move around a document:

Say one of the following:

  • "Line Up"
  • "Line Down"
  • "Page Up"
  • "Page Down"

For more commands, say "What Can I Say?".

To save an existing file:

  1. Say "Click File Tab".

    The File tab opens.

  2. Say "Click Save".

To save a new file:

  1. Say "Click File Tab".

    The File tab opens.

  2. Say "Click Save".

    The Save As dialog box opens.

  3. Dictate the file name. Say "<file name>".
  4. Say "Click Save".

To Save As:

  1. Say "Click File Tab".

    The File tab opens.

  2. Say "Click Save as".

    The Save As dialog box opens.

  3. Dictate the file name. Say "<file name> dot <file extension>".
  4. Say "Click Save".

To print a document:

  1. Say "Click File Tab".

    The File tab opens.

  2. Say "Click Print".

    The Print dialog box opens.

  3. Say "Click Print".
