Creating Roaming user profiles

When you enable the Roaming feature, users can open only Roaming user profiles, unless you select the Allow non-Roaming User Profiles to be opened option on the Administrative Settings dialog box—Roaming tab.

You can create Roaming user profiles using one of the following methods:

  • Create new Roaming user profiles.
  • Convert non-Roaming user profiles into Roaming user profiles.
  • Copy non-Roaming user profiles to the Master Roaming user profile storage location.

For more information on the Roaming feature and setting it up in Standalone mode, see About the Roaming feature and Roaming feature setup checklist.

To create a new Roaming user profile:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Profile>New User Profile.

    The New User Wizard opens.

  2. Click Next.
  3. Specify a name for the Roaming user profile.
  4. Select the Master Roaming user profile storage location from the drop-down list.

For more information, see Roaming user profile prerequisites.

  5. Continue through the New User Wizard as you would for non-Roaming user profiles.

For more information, click the Help button on each wizard page.

To convert non-Roaming user profiles into Roaming user profiles:

  1. From the DragonBar, select Profile>Manage User Profiles.

The Manage User Profiles dialog box opens.

  2. Select the location of your non-Roaming user profiles from the Location of user profile drop-down list.
  3. Select a non-Roaming user profile.
  4. Select Advanced>Copy to Roaming.

The Copy To Roaming dialog box opens.

  5. Select the Master Roaming user profile network storage location from the drop-down list.

Network storage locations appear in this list only if they are currently available to the local computer.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Repeat the process for additional user profiles to convert.

To copy non-Roaming user profiles to the Master Roaming storage location:

If your Master Roaming user profile storage location is on an IIS server, ensure you have Microsoft Web Folders installed on your local computer. For more information and to download the software, see http://www.microsoft.com/downloads.

  1. On the local computer, navigate to the non-Roaming user profile storage location. By default, Dragon stores these in:

    C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking14\Users

  2. Select one or more user profile folders to copy.

Ensure you copy the entire directory structure for each user profile.

  3. Copy the selected folders to the Master Roaming user profile network storage location.
  4. Optionally prevent users from opening non-Roaming user profiles by deselecting the Allow non-Roaming User Profiles to be opened option on the Administrative Settings dialog box—Roaming tab.
