Vocabulary Editor dialog box

Use to search Dragon's vocabulary. You can search for any of the following:

• Words
• Phrases
• Symbols
• Punctuation
• Pronunciation
• Dictation command

Word, phrase, symbol, or command that Dragon writes when you dictate.

Icons that might appear:

• Red plus sign ()— A custom word. Dragon might have added the word through the Spelling Window, Learn from sent emails, or Learn from specific documents.
• Green arrow ()— Dragon moved the word or phrase from the Backup Dictionary to your Active Vocabulary automatically. For more information, see About your Active Vocabulary and the Backup Dictionary and the Automatically add words to the Vocabulary option on the Options dialog box—Correction tab.
• Blue letter P ()— The properties for this word or phrase have been changed from the default properties.

Pronunciation of the word, phrase, or command. Dragon uses this to recognize your spoken words and phrases. You specify the spoken form to:

• Provide pronunciations for words that Dragon might not understand easily. For example, for the name Hsueh-tze, you could specify spoken form "shoo tsee".
• Expand acronyms that might use in your dictation. For example, for the term Explanation of Benefits, you could specify spoken form "EOB".
• Allow Dragon to recognize abbreviated words in your dictation. For example, if you frequently use the name "Victor Zezgcinskevic", you could provide spoken form "victor zee".
• Allow Dragon to recognize jargon. For example, for the term "interrogations", you could specify spoken form "rogs".

Note: Dictation commands have only spoken forms.

Do the following for letters and numbers:

Search criteria that Dragon uses when searching your vocabulary.

The choices are:

• All words: all the words in the Active Vocabulary.
• Custom words only: only entries that have been added to the Vocabulary.
• Words with spoken forms only: only entries whose Spoken form differs from the Written form.
• Words with formatting properties only: only entries with non-default properties in terms of spacing, capitalization, abbreviation, etc.).
• Words containing spaces: only entries containing spaces. For example, "New Line Cinema".
• Words with custom properties only: words where you have changed the default settings in the Word Properties dialog box.
• Words containing digits: only entries containing digits. For example, "B12".
• Words containing punctuation: only entries containing punctuation. For example, "X-ray".
• Words containing capital letters: only entries containing capital letters. For example, "Oberlin".
• Temporary words: entries temporarily added to the Active Vocabulary, such as when you reply to or forward a message while you are dictating in Microsoft Outlook. Dragon finds new words from the original email and adds them as temporary words to the Active Vocabulary. Then, if you send an email using any temporary words, they are added as regular words. (For example, if someone sends you an email that contains the name Zomaril, Zomaril is added as a temporary word. If you reply to or forward that message, Dragon adds Zomaril to the Vocabulary.)
• Words moved from Backup Dictionary: only entries moved from the Backup Dictionary into the Active Vocabulary.
• Deleted words only: only entries deleted from the Active Vocabulary. See also Deleting words and To restore words.
• Searching results

Appears in the Add word or phrase dialog box.

If selected, opens the Train Words dialog box, where you can speak the word or phrase to provide Dragon with the pronunciation.

If deselected, you can later train Dragon using the Train button.

Click to delete a word or phrase from your vocabulary.
