Troubleshooting Overview

If you are having trouble using Dragon for Mac, start with these general steps to determine the cause of the problem.

  1. Does the problem happen in all applications?
  2. Try dictating with TextEdit and see if the problem persists.

  3. Are you attempting to use your keyboard while using Dragon?
  4. See Dictating and typing for details on how to avoid errors while mixing talking and typing.

  5. Are you using an older version of Microsoft Word?
  6. Only Microsoft Word 2011 and 2016 are supported.

  7. Does the problem happen with all audio sources?
  8. Try using your Mac's Internal microphone. Also see Troubleshooting audio and recognition for more steps to troubleshoot audio problems.

  9. Does this happen with all profiles?
  10. Try creating a new profile. If the problem is solved, you can export any custom vocabulary words and commands from your old profile and add them to the new one. See Exporting vocabulary items and Import and export commands for more information.

  11. Are you running the latest version of Dragon Web Extensions for Firefox?
  12. If you are attempting to use Dragon to browse the Internet with Firefox, you may need to update your extensions.

    1. In Firefox, click Tools > Add-ons to open the Add-ons Manager.
    2. Click Extensions in the menu on the left.
    3. Look for Dragon Web Extension in the Extensions list.
    4. If you see the message "Dragon Internet Extension could not be verified for use in Firefox and has been disabled," click here to download the latest extension.
  13. Are you running the latest version of Dragon?
    1. Click the Dragon menu icon in the menu bar and select Preferences….
    2. The Preferences window appears.
    3. Select the Updates panel.
    4. Click Check for Updates Now.
