Dictating license plates and VINs

You dictate license plates by using either the "Enter Plate" and "End Plate" commands, or by using a custom command that enables Plate mode. You can also dictate Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) by using either the "Enter VIN" and "End VIN" commands, or by using a custom command. For more information, see About dictating license plates and VINs.

To dictate license plates or VINs:

  1. Log in to Dragon.
  2. Turn Dragon's microphone on.
  3. Do one of the following:

    • Say "Enter Plate".
    • Say "Enter VIN".
    • Say the custom command that your Dragon administrator created for you.
  4. Dictate a license plate or VIN using the NATO alphabet or custom phonetic alphabet your site uses.

You can dictate up to seventeen letters, numbers, and special characters in one utterance. To dictate plates without a character limitation, pause between phonetic characters.

To backspace one or more characters:

Say "Backspace" or "Backspace <2-20>"

To delete the plate or VIN:

Say "Scratch That".

To exit Plate mode:

Do one of the following:

  • Say "End Plate".
  • Say "End VIN".
  • Perform an action that causes Dragon to exit Plate mode.

Dragon exits Plate mode and returns to its default mode of listening for dictation and commands when you do any of the following:

  • Click your mouse

  • Say another custom command
  • Say a "Press <key>" or "Click <object>" command
  • Press a PowerMic button
  • Change focus to another application or dialog box

If you're using a custom command, one of these actions may already be part of your custom command.

Dragon doesn't exit Plate mode when you turn its microphone on or off.
