Customizing your phonetic alphabet for license plate and VIN dictation
By default, Dragon uses the NATO alphabet for license plate or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) dictation. Optionally, your site can use a different phonetic alphabet by editing the icao.ini
file. This file is installed on each Dragon client during the Dragon Law Enforcement installation. You can use only one phonetic alphabet per site for license plate and VIN dictation.
Generally, your Dragon administrator should customize your icao.ini
file and then upload it to the NMC console. The next time you log in to the Dragon client, or when you log out and log back in, Dragon downloads the updated file. Dragon does this for all users. This ensures that all Dragon users at your site use the same phonetic alphabet.
To customize your phonetic alphabet:
-
Navigate to the following directory on a client computer where Dragon is installed:
\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15
- Locate the
icao.ini
file. - Copy the
icao.ini
file to another location. -
Right-click the file, and then select Open with>Notepad.
The file opens.
- Locate the line that begins with
enx PAWs=
. -
Edit the default values to the left of the letters, numbers, and special characters.
Example:
Original value:
alpha\A
Changed value:
apple\A
- Select File>Save.
- Close the file.
-
Log in to the NMC console and then upload the modified file.
Users receive the updated
icao.ini
file the next time they log in to Dragon, or upon logging out and logging back in. For more information, see the "Sites" chapter in the Nuance Management Center Administrator Guide.Note: Dragon downloads the updated file to the following directory on client computers:
\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Users\<guid folder>
Example:
C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Users\Usere5c93c3c-acf0-484e-857d-14f9776edbaa_d361450d-66ac-4802-9e2d-fa5f1675a3f
The updated file must remain in this directory. Do not copy it to the original directory (
\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15
).
