About Full Text Control

About

The term Full Text Control refers to Dragon’s full set of capabilities related to dictating text and editing it by voice. When your insertion point is in a text field where Dragon has Full Text Control, the DragonBar's Full Text Control Indicator is on (fulll text control on). Full Text Control is available in DragonPad and the following applications:

  • Corel WordPerfect
  • Microsoft Word
  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft WordPad
  • LibreOffice by The Document Foundation
  • Skype for Business
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer
  • Microsoft Outlook

Dragon doesn’t have Full Text Control in places like Microsoft PowerPoint slides and the Windows command prompt. For more information, see About Unknown text fields.

Functionality

Full Text Control includes the following functionality:

  • Automatic spacing adjustment when you insert words.
  • Automatic capitalization such as Dragon capitalizing the first word when you insert a sentence.
  • "Correct <text>", "Delete <text>", and other commands that quote a word or phrase from text.
  • The Correction menu and the Spelling window.
  • Playback of what you dictated .

Other options

When the Full Text Control indicator is off (full text control off), some or all of the above functionality is not available. You can do the following instead:

  • Use the Dictation Box to dictate, correct, or revise text. You can customize the appearance of this box and its behavior, including whether it opens automatically.
  • Work directly in the field, doing the following:
    • When you dictate, say “Spacebar” to adjust spacing as needed, and "Cap" before a word that you want capitalized.
    • To modify or navigate text, use Global Commands as an alternative or complement to mouse and keyboard, such as “Undo That”, “Delete Next <n> Words”, and “Select Line”.
