Opening and closing applications

To open applications from your Desktop or from the Windows Start menu, you'll need to enable the Enable launching from the Start menu option and the Enable launching from the desktop menu option. For more information, see Options dialog box—Commands tab.

To open an application:

Say one of the following:

  • "Open <application name>"
  • "Start <application name>"
  • "Launch <application name>"

To launch an application from the Start menu, say the application's Start menu name. For example, "Open Internet Explorer". To launch an application from your Desktop, say the application's shortcut label. For example, "Open SnagIt v11 Editor".

To close an application:

  1. Click in the application window to ensure it has focus.
  2. Say "Close Window".
